THE FAIR
Your not gonna believe this.
What do you get when you add all the nostalgia, entertainment, and just plain fun of a fair plus over a million in attendance? A "Doozy," that’s what. An entertainment experience like nothing else. An event where legends are made and the tales are tall.
I was the creative director as well as art director and designer for this massive campaign covering every conceivable media, from the logo to newspaper, billboards, broadcast, a goofy-fun website and concert posters. There are so many pieces to this campaign it's impossible to show them all. Full booklet newspaper inserts, emails, and digital ads galore. Everything right down to buttons for the fair employees.
Besides needing to be reproducible for a myriad of uses, I made it a goal for the logo to look great wearable too. We had to pitch for this business, so we had a box of shirts made up for the meeting. When we passed them out to the entire Board of Directors and Fair staff, it showed on their faces that we'd sealed the deal.
If you can, always bring a prop.
The site design was inspired by the Fairgrounds midway with the top nav as darts hitting balloons. It featured all the usual info about schedules, tickets and parking, but also an arcade where you could play "Pig-Pong" and "Space-Rooster." It had a historical timeline of the fair, an in-depth Doozy family history, "Doozy-grams" from Grandpa and you could even vote for who you thought shot Gus.
